Women's Integrated Education and Advocacy
- health education through forums and train the trainer
- clean and maintain the health centre
- hospital and HIV/AIDS awareness raising
- medical treatment and support victims of rape, incest, drug and alcohol abuse
- human rights education
- family and parenting support
- adult literacy programs
- water and sanitation education.
Environmental Education and Advocacy
- empowerment forums
- skills workshops
- schools visitation programs
- climate change media projects.
Community Development and Infrastructure
- development of a women's resource centre
- daily bus service to the health centre
- lobbying for local road improvements (for ambulance/emergency access)
- lobbying for a local ambulance.
Hako Women's Collective
Pacific Black Box's primary partner NGO is Hako Women's Collective, based in Bougainville.
Hako Women's Collective's 'tukui' (mission statement) is:
'Aga u Kao ri Hako ke hihitaguhu, hihatuts, bate hatapa haniga e naga a han I tagaga.'The following is a statement from the women describing their organisation:
'In response to the current situation in our community, we the women of Hako are committed to work together, help each other and teach and train our people to build a safe, secure, just and peaceful society creating an environment conducive to sustainable, integrated development for the common good of our children and their children.'
Hako women formed the Hako Women's Collective with the assistance of the Bougainville Women for Peace and Freedom (BWPF) in June 2006 to serve the community with a holistic approach to development.
Hako is the most northern and most densely populated area of Buka District in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. It is growing rapidly with a crowded population, land shortage, no commercial district and limited access to services.
